Dough Ray Me
Yesterday’s poem rewrite was actually triggered by this song rewrite that happened earlier in the day, and this rewrite was triggered by my brain randomly deciding that L.A. (as in Los Angeles) should be pronounced “la” like the note between “so” and “ti” in the song from Sound of Music. Why my brain thought that would be a good idea is beyond my ability to explain, but once I’d thought it, rewriting the song was the next step and it all flowed from there.
Dough, some cash, to build my stash
Ray, that shoots from a ray-gun
Me, the base of all politics
Far, Earths distance from the sun
Sew, stitches needed from attack
LA, where fires are aglow
Tea, when gossip fires back
That will bring us back to dough
You can see some themes emerging. We’re living through some dark times and we need to resist the darkness. I’ve got a couple more rewrites coming, then maybe I’ll talk about some original songs or take a look back at some other projects.
In housekeeping, I added an hcard to the site for the “indieweb,” fixed up the CSS a tad. Haven’t gone back through the archives yet, so expect some cobwebs there.
Thanks for being here.

Monday's Child
I have been writing some new songs lately, and also writing new words to other people’s songs. Today’s is not a song, but a poem.
Monday’s child will mask their face,
Tuesday’s child leaves no trace,
Wednesday’s child defeats their foe,
Thursday’s child fights status quo,
Friday’s child supports mutual aid,
Saturday’s child unionizes to get paid,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is anarchist, witchy, ADHD, and gay;
I designed the t-shirt above several months before re-writing the poem, and the last line being blank is intended as an ADHD joke. I suspect the god botherers will be most offended by the idea that being born on Sunday makes you gay, which is funny because that is the only part I left in from the original nursery rhyme via:
Monday’s child is fair of face,
Tuesday’s child is full of grace,
Wednesday’s child is full of woe,
Thursday’s child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay;
In other news, I’ve been trying to resurrect my blog since I’m 99% off social media now. After strugging to get Jekyll working under Windows (ironic since I switched to Jekyll so I wouldn’t have to keep tinkering with my blogging software), I switched my main computer to Linux. I was planning to do that in any case, since Windows 10 support ends this year, and Windows 11 is a stinking pile of poo. So that took some time, but is working well now. That’s the long way of saying, this is my first post in a loooong time, but hopefully I’ll be posting more regularly now.
Also, the format has changed. Jekyll changed a lot since I last used it, and that broke my scripts and templates. So I’m going simpler, but will need to tweak the CSS some more. I’ll do a pass through the whole blog to see what’s broken and try to fix that stuff first. Because there is no escape from futzing with the blogging tool instead of blogging.
Thanks for reading!

Housekeeping
Alright, I’m getting tired of trying to read (and write) what ought to be blog posts in long Twitter threads, so I’m dusting off my old blog. Also retiring my roll-your-own blogging tool which was basically a poorly coded version of Jekyll anyway (in my defence, Jekyll didn’t exist when I first wrote it). I did spend some time trying to bring the old beast forward into Python 3 idioms, but it was clear I was falling into my old trap of working on my blogging software instead of actually blogging. At least it was written in Markdown, to transitioning to Jekyll, while not perfectly straightforward, wasn’t too bad.
I will be tweaking the CSS a bit here and there, and fixing broken links if I find them, but basically the old content, such as it is, is here for archival purposes only. I have a lot of ideas of things to write about, in my usual mishmash of politics, programming, poetry, etc. so hopefully I can not stop playing with the code and start writing.
